FCI's Jam Class

I don't really know HOW to begin this post. It was the weirdest kind of sunday. Skipped church, mainly because of father's day lunch with inlaws, but at the same time, was secretly pleased because that meant I got nip over to FF Axis for awhile, to witness the much talked about combat event of the year, ie, the result of the Miracle Auction Event, 2006, whereby someone bid RM500 for FCI, for the privilege of a class where the bidder could choose all the tracks. Rather sedate request, for RM500....I would have expected a lot more skin, or stripping of strategic areas.

Anyway, back to back with that bid was another bid for FCI to do an entire Jam class with Jam Superstar, Tony. Since that bid failed, I don't know how, they still managed to get FCI to agree to do one Jam track with Tony. Of course, the studio was packed to capacity, but not everyone was in the know as to the surprise in store. I overheard a lass commenting, "JAM? I dont want to do jam". In one fell swoop, I managed to meet at least 3 or 4 "prominent" names of the pseudonymns on the Fitness Fever Forum, including the bidder, choobacca, who turns out is from my alma mater.

Tony is a GREAT jam instructor, although I am no jam fan, I can see that he really exudes that charisma that makes them great. FCI, amidst cat calls and whistles, jammed along for the warm up track, which Tony announced, was a very "masculine" track. Hungry for more, the screaming women yelled for an encore, after the first track, whereupon Tony seized the opportunity to make FCI gyrate more, and display more hip and bum movement. You'd think you were in some rock concert, or Akademi Fantasia, ....and not a fitness first les mills class. To reciprocate, Tony in turn did one Combat warm up track, and well, I think it was nothing new to him, as he seemed like a natural. Probably was a combat instructor before. Yhsmom postulated that jammers pick up combat more easily that vice versa, probably because of the versatility afforded by Jam. Alas, I could not stay for the entire session, and had to leave by the 2nd track. Not before getting some exciting video footage and still shots though.

Not only FCI was becoming a celebrity, but the day before, FPI also had his time in the limelight, when an article featuring him and shades gf appeared in the Weekend Mail. Rather tacky headline, LOVERS GET TOGETHER IN UNCONVENTIONAL WAYS.....article was courtesy of long time Malay Mail journalist, and fellow blogger. I am not sure what is the best way to scan and save articles from the papers, or any articles, for that matter. The newspaper clipping looks too tiny. But the last paragraph, on the next page, is clear enough for all to read, and respond accordingly. (in my case, by choking).

Meanwhile, on Saturday, I also went for Combat at the Curve with my latest "favourite combat instructor". What does one call a runner up for "favourite"? 2nd Favourite? His class was very enjoyable. Might make it a regular spot, since rumor has it my traditional saturday evening slot in MJH will be replaced by God Knows who. Also, it's quite fun to jalan jalan around ikano and ikea after class. Oh, but I did promise FFBI (future favourite balance instructor) and FSI that I will attend the balance class next saturday. Aiyo, if u read this ah, apologies in advance. Next saturday also I can't. Got wedding dinner, cocktails start at 6.30pm. Actually, going to other gyms is like going to a new school. In MJH, i am familiar with everyone there, and know most of the faces. But at NSFCI class, (new 2nd favourite combat instructor) i dont know anyone, not to mention the age median seems a lot lower than MJH...save for one aunty who's always there. Doesn't help that the instructor also doesn't know you. Oh, hangon, it helps in the sense that you can stand in front without fear of being laughed at, unlike in FCI's class.

The Curve seems to be teeming with instructors.....it's like the aquaria of instructors. At any one time, there'll be at least 4 or 5 instructors milling around one.

You scanned it for me? Awww.... I save my special attention for members like you :)

I thought your FCI did great in the jam/combat class. FCI should be BCI (Best Combat Instructor). The sporting nature of Tony (who was really great) and BCI definitely made the class one of the highlights of the year.

shades, yes, i scanned it just for you. see, the lengths i go thru for my favourite instructors.

nina...well, "BEST" is very subjective lar, hence cannot bestow such a title on anyone. but yar, he looked good doing the jam hor, despite what he thinks.

yhsmom ..what about FFM himself? he doesnt do jam either warttttt.

btw, that was NOT the headline la! the headline was `Time for Two' and the `tacky bit' (in much smaller print) was called the standfirst!

jesscet, btw, (hope i dont get sued), i didnt think it was possible, but the mail has managed to make itself even more trashy since its revamped. (not your article la, i'm talking about the paper in general). and, they've done away with the ONE good thing they had previously, which was the comics section, that had the classics like mandrake, nancy, beetle bailey, and drabble. the comics section now is sooo pathetic.

yeah nina, no disrespect, but right, "Best" cannot be said cause there are also other instructors out there who can also be the best and it's politically incorrect to label FCI as the best only.i feel that it is only right and fair, that we should not turn this into a popularity contest lor. Why le? because it's not up to us to say on who is the best cause it may be biased to the number of classes you spent with your favorites. :)

unless we like american idol competition like that, we can only judge someone to be number 1, if there's no biaseness as we do not know the instructors and their capabilities.

Fatboybakes and Violet: my apologies for the BCI comment. Both of you are right that being the "best" is subjective. FCI may not be the best in everyone's books, only the best CI for Nina. And yes, it isn't a popularity contest. I apologise again for my earlier comment if it had offended any CIs or C members.

nina, dont worry about it la. no big deal. i wasnt too fussed, just that, you know lah, MOST of these instructors all very the diva one...(running for cover)....puji one more than the other, and boy, watch the dung hit the propellor. they may not admit it...but they are. (DIVAS, ALL OF THEM!!! HAHAHAHAHHAHA)

so best that we dont trod on any of their toes. (okay okay, kidding, instructors, you are not all divas.)

What a good idea. FB & FFM jamming together! But then FFM is not a FF Celebrity/ mascot like you are...

At 3:53 PM, Blogger fatboybakes said...

GUFFAW, yhsmom, mascot my foot lah. dont' forget FFM is the one whom all instructors FEAR!!!! One of the Fs in FFM MUST stand for FEARSOME!!!! how many sane ppl carry 18kg for squats anyway.... (on each side). i get exhausted just by looking at his weights.

you may be surprised but i totally agree with you.. sad but true, the Mail has gone down the pits.. it's just a shallow tabloid with only entertainment value i guess..the worse bit is how they want to sex everything up! look at Campus Babe for eg in WM.

no, you wont get sued for your honest comments, even some of us journos there are not happy with the direction it's going.

as for the comics, i will mention it to the eds. They have to have readers interest in mind.. and you're not the first one to say that.

so are u still reading MM daily like before (i presumed you were) or you had given it up like many others previous middle-age readers! ;p

"Tony is a GREAT jam instructor, although I am no jam fan, I can see that he really exudes that charisma that makes them great"

hah hah!! maybe u shud stick to "I AM NO JAM FAN"... he is good, buy he's not great... u maybe interested more to Tony's ass rather than the class =D. U might wanna try all instructors before making any particular remarks... I AM A JAM FANATICS!!! Go to all classes at all FF clubs.. even true fitness... Tracy is GREAT... Riyo's and Azyei's class very energetic... Kenny's and Leonara's class are so fun!! Tony?? hmmm... ok lorrrr... his instructions can be quite 'lost'...

After years of reading the MM on a daily basis, I gave it up almost immediately after the new revamped version came out because it was honestly such a load of rubbish!

jamfan ar, not much of a jamfan myself but tracy is great, not doubt abt that. veli veli good queing, veli veli energetic & motivating also.
that why i agree with violet, cause, i jst feel that ppl would make the CI into their FCIs if they often go to their classes only lor (no offense to fatboy ar hehe). Its OK that everyone has their preference, but i think only fair that they go to the other CIs classes equally, then only think which is which. for me have been to FCI class before and other CIs classes before (hehe even gym hopping). but of all the CIs, i really prefer those with high energy, loud & motivating, and good choice of ques (of course tech must be at least good also lar) - that's what i belive makes a good CI lor.

jam fan, ordinarily, i would not have dignified your low down remarks with a response, but since this is a private blog, reflecting a person's personal opinions, i think i am entitled to label any instructor great, if i so see fit. there is no need to make lewd remarks about people being interested in one's lower anatomy, or otherwise. it is most unbecoming, and i for one, along with the other matured readers hear, expect an apology for such uncalled for remarks. I have no doubt there are many great instructors out there, and to each his/her own. what works for the goose might not be for the gander, in this case.

jesscet: the MM used to be a must read for me too but the revamped version is just a disappointment. Alot of people find the "campus babe" section offensive.

jamfan and gym-addict:I don't think it is FBB's intention to grade any instructors but it is his blog, he is entitled to make any remarks and preferences as he wishes, and not be subject to the constraints of not offending any other persons' admiration for any particular instructors. He does not have to try out all instructors prior to stating his views. I don't think your comments on Tony and FCI and FBB are fair at all.

At 12:52 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

As has been much debated in a certain forum, one's opinion about "good" instructors is purely subjective. Furthermore, Fat Boy has never been in a Jam class so his opinion is from a non Jammer's point of view and for any spectator Tony's performance was undeniably entertaining.

At 3:55 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

hellow charlene, please don't point point k. :P i did not comment anything on Tony. i just acknowledge that tracy is a great instructor. please relook at my comments. jamfan is the one said that. :(

aiyo ...i stress puwlease look at my comments again, i did not comment on Faboy's FCI. Instead i generalised the fair play in attending other CIs before making a biase comparison or remarks based on any other CIs. I use the term FCI not as refering to Fatboy's FCI ok? i think fatboy got the picture. i believe my remark is fair, because i did not touch on anyone lo. its just you automatically or biasely think FCIs is linked to somebody. key word FCIs = Favoriate Combat Instructors (not one specific Instructor). even so, i do attend Fatboy's FCI classes ok? puwlease notice right, i didn't say anything about his classes in my comments above. not my intention to hit anyone's toes.

Gym-addict: very sorry that i misread your comment. please accept my apologies.

HAHAH, yar, charlene, i knew what gym addict meant, and was wondering why you lumped him/her with jamfan.

anyway, chill, people, its meant to be a happy blog, with happy comments. aitelyu ah, no need to get so worked up one. life is too short, so enjoy, and lets go kick ass in combat. not literally though.
